Chester County Trails Master Plan Released

January 31, 2025

Chester County has released its Trails Master Plan, which will be an important planning resource for the county’s active transportation network. It establishes a countywide vision for an interconnected, multi-use trail network. A multi-use trail is typically 10 to 15 feet wide and features a paved, accessible surface that facilitates nonmotorized, bi-directional travel by pedestrians, bicyclists and other non-motorized forms of transportation.

Project Description

In 2022, Chester County was awarded a grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnership Program to develop the Chester County Trails Master Plan. The Trails Master Plan will be an important planning resource for the County’s active transportation network, and establish a county-wide vision for an interconnected, multi-use trail network. A multi-use (or shared-use) trail is typically 10′-15′ wide and features a paved, accessible surface that facilitates non-motorized, bi-directional travel by pedestrians, bicyclists, and other non-motorized forms of transportation.

The Master Plan will establish a framework for future trail development in Chester County; creating connections between different trail networks, providing more equitable trail access, and filling critical trail “gaps” in the trail network. In addition to mapping out the trail vision, the Master Plan will include information and resources on trail design, funding, and implementation to support trail development.
